Deep-sea fishing is aplenty in the region. Many of the local reefs are only 30 minutes away where you can catch snapper, kingfish, hapuku or marlin. Popular islands for fishing include Tuhua (Mayor Island) and Motiti.

Tauranga Game Fishing Club Water Activities Bay Of Plenty Salt Water Fishing Tauranga

The Tauranga Game Fishing Club offers excellent facilities for use by its members and their guests and also New Zealand Big Game Fishing Council and the International Game Fishing Association members. The Clubrooms consist of a lounge bar with pool table and large screen, gaming room with twelve poker machines and a top class restaurant. There is also a small board room available for hire at very reasonable rates. The Club is a great place to come and relax after work or with the family on the weekend.
The Club hosts in the vicinity of twelve fishing tournaments a year with the major event being the annual One Base Game Fishing Tournament held in the first week of March. This sees in excess of 250 boats and up to 1,000 anglers chasing marlin, shark, tuna, kingfish and snapper over four days. The event is hosted out of a giant marquee on the grass adjacent to the Club. There is nightly prize giving and entertainment with the final prize giving on the Saturday Night. The total prize pool for this tournament is about $200,000.00 worth of fishing gear, electronics, outdoor furniture, boats and motors, etc.
Entertainment is laid on about once a month either on a Friday or Saturday night and also guest speakers come along and discuss a vast range of nautical matters.
Club nights are Tuesday and Thursday where raffles are run and the members’ lucky draw is drawn. This, at times, is well over $1,000.00. The profits from the raffle nights go toward purchasing 150 hams which we give away on ham night in December of each year.
